Description:This Saint-Émilion Grand Cru has a full aroma with notes of black cherries, ripe plums, and blackberries. The dark fruit is complemented by nuances of cedar, vanilla, tobacco, and a subtle spiciness. Maturation in French oak barrels adds extra complexity to the wine, without the fruit receding into the background.

On the palate, the wine is round and powerful, with soft tannins and a beautiful balance between ripe fruit, fresh acidity, and subtle woody notes. The 2020 vintage gives the wine a ripe and generous character, while maintaining the typical elegance of Saint-Émilion. The finish is long, warm, and delicately spicy.

Drinking moment:A lovely wine for an elaborate dinner, a festive occasion, or a quiet evening where the bottle can take center stage. Preferably serve the wine in large glasses and allow it about half an hour to fully develop after opening.

Fun fact:The designation Saint-Émilion Grand Cru does not refer to a position within the official classification of Saint-Émilion, but to stricter production requirements than for a regular Saint-Émilion. These include lower yields and a longer mandatory aging period.

Winemaker:Château Vieille Tour La Rose has been owned by the Ybert family for more than four generations. The winery covers about five hectares on the northern slopes of Saint-Émilion. The average 55-year-old vines are planted on clay-limestone and sandy soils. The family works according to HVE guidelines and ages the wine in a combination of new and used wooden barrels.

Food pairing tip:Excellent with entrecote, rack of lamb, stewed meat, or duck breast. For vegetarians, it pairs beautifully with mushroom risotto, grilled eggplant, or a dish with lentils and roasted vegetables. Also delicious with aged cheeses such as Comté or aged Gouda cheese.
