Our Story
We are Casper & Vera, founders of Wijnhuis Cave, the wine shop in Delft where personal attention, quality, and experience come together. Driven by our shared passion for wine, we want to show that good wine is accessible to everyone, from novice wine lovers to seasoned connoisseurs.
The name Cave combines Ca from Casper and Ve from Vera, and at the same time refers to the French word for wine cellar. Together with "Wijnhuis" (Wine House), which perfectly suits the historical atmosphere of Delft, it forms the natural name for our shop.
We select our wines with the utmost care and attention. Our collection exclusively features quality wines: from refined classics to unique discoveries you won't find on regular wine shelves. Whether you're looking for a special bottle, advice for a dinner, or a wine tasting, at Wijnhuis Cave you'll always find something that suits you.
Vera brings a wealth of experience from the hospitality industry, having worked at several Michelin-starred restaurants, where she further developed her hospitality and wine knowledge. With completed SDEN and WSET-3 certifications and a background in sales, she combines expertise with entrepreneurship. Her mission: to offer Delft an accessible wine shop where everyone feels welcome and can confidently buy wine.
Casper has a strong commercial background and grew as an entrepreneur at Tippr, a hospitality platform where he was co-owner. His current role as general manager at a Delft city bakery has further strengthened his management skills and local network. With his love for photography and videography, he captures the stories of winemakers in an inspiring way, contributing to the online visibility and marketing of Wijnhuis Cave.
Our shop is accessible online and will also be accessible in Delft in the future. This way, you can easily order your favorite wines or make new discoveries, wherever you are. Wijnhuis Cave offers a unique combination of craftsmanship, hospitality, and passion for wine. A place where every bottle tells a story and everyone feels welcome.
Vera van Iersel
Vera is the wine expert behind Wijnhuis Cave. She has worked at several (two) Michelin-starred restaurants in the Netherlands, where wine, gastronomy, and hospitality come together at the highest level. There, she not only developed a refined palate but, above all, the ability to find the perfect wine for every guest.
With her completed SDEN and WSET Level 3 qualifications, Vera possesses in-depth professional knowledge, but her greatest strength is that she makes wine understandable and accessible. No difficult terms or complicated wine stories, but honest advice, enthusiasm, and attention to your taste.
Casper Polderman
Casper brings the commercial and entrepreneurial side to Wijnhuis Cave. As general manager of Bakkerij van Delft, Stadsbakkerij De Diamanten Ring, he has gained extensive experience in retail, team development, and creating a store where personal service is paramount. He brings this experience daily to Wijnhuis Cave.
Additionally, Casper has an entrepreneurial background. He was co-owner of TIPPR, the largest hospitality platform in the Netherlands, where he helped build the company's growth and gained extensive experience in entrepreneurship, marketing, and the hospitality industry. This combination of commercial knowledge and practical experience forms a valuable foundation for his role within Wijnhuis Cave.
In addition to his entrepreneurship, Casper has a great passion for photography and videography. With these skills, he brings the stories behind our winemakers to life and ensures that the Wijnhuis Cave experience doesn't stop in the store but is also tangible online.
