Winzer Krems
For more than two thousand years, wine has been cultivated around the historic city of Krems an der Donau. Here, in the heart of Lower Austria, lies Winzer Krems: Austria's largest and leading wine cooperative. With hundreds of passionate winegrowers, centuries-old wine traditions, and a continuous focus on quality, Winzer Krems demonstrates why Austria is now at the absolute top in the field of fresh, elegant white wines.
From the famous Grüner Veltlinerto refined Riesling and distinctive regional specialties: every wine reflects the unique terroir of the Austrian wine regions.
A rich history of more than 2,000 years
Winegrowing around Krems has an impressive history dating back to Roman times. As early as the third century, quality grapes were grown here, and over the centuries, Krems grew into one of Austria's most important wine cities.
In 1938, local winegrowers decided to join forces and founded Winzer Krems. Today, the cooperative consists of approximately 600 winegrowers, who collectively manage over 1,200 hectares of vineyards. Thanks to this collaboration, centuries of knowledge, modern techniques, and a shared passion for quality are brought together in every bottle.
Wines from the most beautiful regions of Lower Austria
Although Winzer Krems is based in Kremstal, the winery also works with carefully selected vineyards in surrounding quality regions such as Traisental, Kamptal, and parts of the Wachau.
The Traisental DAC, where your Grüner Veltliner comes from, is one of Austria's youngest protected wine regions. Thanks to the calcareous gravel and loess soils, warm days, and cool nights, the grapes here develop a beautiful freshness, vibrant acidity, and the characteristic spiciness for which Austrian Grüner Veltliner is globally renowned.
Austrian craftsmanship with an eye for sustainability
At Winzer Krems, everything revolves around precision. The grapes are harvested at the ideal moment and then processed with extreme care. White grapes are gently pressed and fermented at controlled temperatures in stainless steel tanks. This preserves the fresh fruit aromas, lively acidity, and the character of the grape optimally.
In recent years, Winzer Krems has also invested in a completely renovated wine cellar, modern winemaking techniques, and sustainable energy. Since the 2022 harvest, the winery has been officially certified according to the Sustainable Austriaprogram, establishing sustainability and respect for nature within its operations.
Grüner Veltliner: Austria's calling card
No grape variety is as closely associated with Austria as Grüner Veltliner. Winzer Krems is one of the producers who have put this grape on the world map. The wines are characterized by their fresh aromas of green apple, citrus, and white stone fruit, complemented by the typical spicy and slightly peppery notes that make Grüner Veltliner so recognizable.
The Traisental DAC Grüner Veltlineris a beautiful example of this. The wine is fresh, juicy, and elegant, with a beautiful minerality and a lively finish. This makes it an excellent accompaniment to fish dishes, salads, asparagus, schnitzel, Asian dishes, and classic Austrian cuisine.
