Stefan Meyer Winery
In the sunny Südpfalz, on the edge of the Pfälzer Wald, lies Weingut Stefan Meyer. Here, a new generation of German winemakers create wines that are not dominated by technique or oak, but by their origin. For Stefan Meyer, one conviction is central: a wine must tell the story of the soil on which the grapes grow, the climate in which they ripen, and the passion of the winemaker who creates it.
With this philosophy, Weingut Stefan Meyer is today one of the most progressive wineries in the Pfalz and demonstrates how refined modern German wine can be.
A family business with an innovative vision
Winemaking is literally in Stefan Meyer's blood. His great-grandfather was already a winegrower and wine merchant, while his grandfather founded the current family business in Rhodt unter Rietburg. He was one of the first winemakers in the region to bottle his own wines and sell them far beyond the Pfalz – a progressive step at the time.
Today, Stefan Meyer continues that entrepreneurial spirit. As the third generation, he continues to build the family business, but with a contemporary vision centered on sustainability, terroir, and precision. His goal is not to produce as much wine as possible, but to make wines that express their origin as purely as possible.
The strength of the Pfalz
The Pfalzis one of Germany's warmest and sunniest wine regions. Thanks to the shelter of the Haardt Mountains, the vineyards enjoy a mild climate with many hours of sunshine and relatively little rainfall. This allows the grapes to ripen optimally while retaining their fresh acidity.
What makes the region extra special is the enormous variety of soils. Limestone, red sandstone, clay, loam, and loess sometimes lie only a few hundred meters apart here. Stefan Meyer sees these differences as the key to characterful wines. Each soil gives a unique expression to the grapes and forms the basis for his different wine series.
Löss-Lehm: where elegance and richness meet
The Löss-Lehmseries – often written as Loss Lehnin the Netherlands – is named after the characteristic loess and loam soilson which the grapes grow. Loess produces soft, round, and fruity wines, while loam adds extra structure, tension, and finesse.
This combination results in wines with great balance and wonderful drinkability. Whether it's a fresh Chardonnay & Weißburgunder, an elegant Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir)or another wine from this series: every bottle shows how crucial the soil is to the final wine. The name of the series is therefore a tribute to the terroir of the Südpfalz.
Sustainable viticulture with respect for nature
Stefan Meyer works as naturally as possible in the vineyard. The winery is organically certified and uses sustainable viticulture methods that enhance biodiversity and soil health. In the cellar, a restrained approach is taken: spontaneous fermentation, long aging on fine lees, and careful use of wood ensure that the wines retain their pure character.
According to Stefan Meyer, great wine is not made in the cellar, but in the vineyard. His role as a winemaker is therefore primarily to guide the quality of the grapes as best as possible, without masking the character of their origin.
