Waarom september hét moment is voor een wijnproeverij in Delft

Why September is the perfect time for a wine tasting in Delft

There's something special about September. The holiday suitcases are back in the attic, the first crisp evenings arrive, and life slowly shifts back to long tables, convivial drinks, and evenings where you linger just a little longer. For us, every September feels like the official kick-off of wine season.

That might sound strange, because, of course, you drink wine all year round. Yet, we notice that in September, people get the urge to discover new flavors. That's why this month we're organizing two wine tastings here in Delft.

From summer rosé to surprising discoveries

In summer, we often automatically reach for the same bottle. A crisp white wine, a rosé on the terrace, or a sparkling wine during a barbecue.

But as soon as September begins, something changes. Evenings get longer, dishes become heartier, and suddenly you feel like trying something new. Perhaps an elegant Pinot Noir, a surprising Spanish white wine, or even a wine you never would have expected to like.

That's precisely what our September tastings are all about. Not about remembering as many facts as possible, but about discovering new favorites.

Not a wine lesson, but a convivial afternoon

We hear it often: "I don't really know that much about wine." Fortunately, you don't have to.

In fact, most people who join our tastings are simply curious. They enjoy wine, want to try something different, and are looking forward to a pleasant afternoon. That's why we deliberately keep it accessible.

We talk about the grapes, the winemakers, and the stories behind the bottles, but always in a way that remains enjoyable. No complicated wine terms that require a dictionary, but understandable explanations that you can still use the next time you're having dinner.

Two tastings, two completely different experiences

In September, we are organizing two special tastings.

During our classic wine tasting, you'll sample seven carefully selected quality wines from various wine-producing countries. From a festive sparkling wine to surprising white and red wines, each with its own story.

Additionally, we are organizing a tasting that will be completely new to many people: an afternoon entirely dedicated to Dutch wine.

Many people don't even know that the Netherlands now produces beautiful quality wines. That's precisely why we love to let people taste them. It might just be the biggest surprise of the afternoon.

More than just wine

Of course, a wine tasting is about the wine. But honestly, it's often the conversations in between that make an afternoon special.

The discussion about which wine is a favorite. Someone who suddenly discovers they actually like red wine. Or that one bottle everyone talks about for weeks afterwards.

That's why we also provide matching appetizers, a relaxed atmosphere, and plenty of space to ask questions. You don't need to know anything before you come in. Being curious is more than enough.

We are already looking forward to it

When we started Wijnhuis Cave, we never thought so many people would ask us when the next tasting would be.

Ultimately, that is precisely why we organize these September afternoons. Small-scale, personal, and above all, convivial.

Because we want to give everyone the attention we would appreciate ourselves, we have deliberately chosen a limited number of places. This keeps it relaxed and allows ample space to discover new wines together.

Perhaps we'll see you at our table in September. We'll take care of the wine, the stories, and the snacks. All you need to bring is your curiosity.
